Commonwealth Games at Hampden and Glasgow Streets

I booked sessions for Athletics at Hampden Park this week. On Monday Jean and I took the grandkids into Glasgow to see what was going on in the city centre. I then left then for the evening session at Hampden.

Merchant City was jammed.

The queues at Hampden were long but moved quickly.

The Kenyans were dominant. Watching the athletes I noticed that all the African runners had easy relaxed styles which looked effortless. The rest looked awkward in comparison.

Finlay was napping as the banter went back and forth.

The bacon rolls were welcome.

Louise enjoys the sun.

Maddy the dog was interested in the food.

Tour de France, Gateshead 10K, Sheffield

A busy 12 days. Weather was sunny, sunny, sunny.

First off we were in Sheffield staying with Laura, Allan and Jack. We can not thank them enough for putting us up.

Jack Takes a Ride
They are a great family. The main purpose of our trip was to see the 2nd stage of the Tour de France. Allan gave us excellent advice to view the race at Jenkins Road which is a steep hill. Although the race still went past at a good pace.

I was a student in Sheffield over 40 years ago at the Polytechnic. After wandering around I got my bearings and memories flooded back.

From there we had a couple of days in Derbyshire. Staying in Hathersage.

Another stop at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park outside Wakefield.

Finally on to Helen's in Darlington where we met up with Kathie, Erin and Rhys.

With Kathie and Helen I ran the Gateshead 10K.

This was a magic day for me. I had always wanted to run an event with my daughters.  An ambition finally achieved. We all had minimum training but performed well as a team.  Encouraging each other along.

Finally we had a few hours at Saltburn by the Sea. Kathie's birth place.
